      Joint MITI Mashhad and FMDV Asian Regional Office Workshop for local Managers

      Metropolises and Foreign Investment: Opportunities and Challenges   


      Metropolis International Training Institute (MITI) Regional Center in Mashhad in conjunction with the FMDV Asian Regional Office conducted a two-day workshop on “Foreign Investment”.

      Over 13 city representatives and managers from Iran participated in this national workshop focused on the opportunities and challenges of foreign finance and investment in urban management.    

      The objectives of this workshop were:

      •           Understanding the rules, regulations, and processes of foreign investment in Iran

      •           Familiarity with national and provincial legal considerations

      •           Examining the possibility of using foreign investment of Iranian municipalities

      •          Challenges of Foreign Investment in Iranian Cities

      •           Define urban projects in such a way as to be bankable

      The program brought together urban and regional experts from Tehran, Mashhad, Qum, Zahedan, Zanjan, Sari, Hamadan, Qazvin, Ahvaz, Khalilshahr, Shiraz, Isfahan, and Bojnourd. Case studies and best practices were discussed to bring knowledge exchange between cities and to provide participants with examples that can illustrate the principles, provoke discussion, and facilitate better understanding the contents.

      The training provided a special opportunity for urban financial experts to become acquainted with the process of absorbing finance and foreign investments according to national regulations. The training session was attended by over 50 urban experts and managers, including officials from the Municipality of Mashhad.  

      The training workshops were conducted by professional experts from OIETAI (Organization for investment Economic and Technical Assistance of Iran); Mr. Ghahramani and Mr. Salimiyan.

      Mr. Shahriar Alesheykh, Deputy of Mashhad City Planning and Development inaugurated the meeting with a welcoming speech. He said: “In the municipality of Mashhad, there is a strong desire to use various financial resources and investments, including the domestic and foreign capital.”

      Al Alesheykh said last year the Asian Office of the FMDV, which is hosted by the Human Capital Development and Planning Department of the Municipality of Mashhad, international experts have been invited to introduce foreign financial capacities that can be used in the municipalities.

      He added: "The issue that was raised at the same meeting was that Iranian municipalities were also faced with complexities of internal rules to take foreign investments, so this year, with this approach, we hold this session with the participation of national audiences to help them better know the procedures that could be used to facilitate the flow of foreign investment in municipalities.”

      The training program was coordinated and led by Mr. Hamid Isfahanizadeh, Director of ISCO, Mashhad’s International and Scientific Cooperation Office and hosted by Shahriar Bahrami, the secretary of the FMDV Asian Regional Office.

      that's very good courses. i wish these workshops makes contribution between big cities.
